UTStarcom to assist govt. in Smart City initiative.
Telecommunications infrastructure provider UTStarcom has partnered with the government for the Smart City initiative. The company aims to add its expertise and business values to the Smart City initiative, which is aimed to better city infrastructure, reduce related costs, optimise resources consumption and improve quality of lifestyle of city residents.
Wong, CEO and director, UTStarcom, said, “We are closely following various initiatives of the government of India including the Smart City, the optical NOFN programme deployment plans, and public WiFi deployments. The Smart City deployment would require a smart metro network to guarantee reliable and efficient connectivity everywhere, every time and for everybody.” With the growth in mobile traffic, smartphone consumer base and strapping internet penetration, the company believes that WiFi is going to play an increasingly important role in future telecom industry.
Speaking on the strategy of the company, Rahul Pandey, director, sales and marketing, SAARC, says, “Our carrier-grade Wi-Fi solution is extremely well suited for smart city access applications. It offers very high reliability and scalability, and provides extreme performance and extended feature set as required for smart city implementations.
A single controller can serve up to 2.6 million subscribers through 1,20,000 wireless access points throughout the city. Our end-to-end Wi-Fi product portfolio consists of a full range of indoor and outdoor access points, centralised wireless network control system and services management solution that can efficiently address the needs of smart city related applications. In addition, the solution offers multiple monetisation options, which can make the smart city projects much more attractive to commercial service providers.” Recently, the company has discussed with the government about the expansion of broadband in India, Smart City model and Wi-Fi implementation to persist its vision for India to become a telecom and network leader.
